Heroes Volume 5: Redemption
Chapter 14 – Close to You
While Hiro and Ando attempt to save Suresh, Bennet tries to expose Samuel’s weakness in his attempt to defeat the carnival leader.
*Huh, no chapter title this time?
Anyway, usually Heroes features three character plots per episode as the focus, however, this time the structure is kinda off as we have the usual Peter-Emma and Hiro plot with the addition of Noah-Parkman-Samuel plot which doesn’t really focus on anyone. And surprisingly, Heroes finally doesn’t feature Claire as its plot point, though she does appear at one scene.

"...so you've been cheating behind me all this time?"
For those who feared Emma-Peter will be another cliche romance relationship, don’t worry about it since their relationship got ruined here. First of all, comes mama peter, disapproving their relationship, which turns out she has a dream about how she brings destruction. Peter, in his disbelief, absorbs her power to see this dream himself. Shocked after seeing Emma use Samuel’s Cello for evil deed in his dream, he goes back to break that cello, and in doing so, he also breaks her heart and their relationship. Honestly, I thought he become smarter, especially when he absorbs Angela’s power to see the dream himself but his action afterward is just…
Anyway, I started to think that Sylar’s appearance on that dream is the reason of his stupidness. You see, Peter still hasn’t recovered from Nathan’s dead and still has his head full of Sylar, so when he sees Sylar getting close to another person close to him, he just become all emotional and starts acting without thinking. Especially when Sylar says how he’s gonna save her. Though I am too, wondering what’s this event that Peter foresees in his dream and how Emma and Sylar fit in it. Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how this incident will effect Emma, will she turns to the darkside because of this? Will her future changes, or will the incident become the trigger instead?
Oh, and do I need to say that it’s interesting to see Lidya thinks Peter will fit a the carnival’s new leader? It surely is interesting to see the next season where Peter is leading the carnival.

The Great Asylum Escape
Let’s move on to the lighter part, and as usual, it’s Hiro! Hiro’s adventure in the asylum turns out to be a lot more better than I thought and his fanboy-ism talk is a lot better now, since Ando can quickly translate it for us, instead of wasting the whole episode to decipher it. Anyway, his break from the Asylum is interesting, though moments later, they somehow figures out to jolt him with lightning to recover his brain, and it just worked <_< Honestly, I feel like Hiro’s brain being scrambled is just a plot tool for the writer so they could have an episode of breaking into the asylum, I mean, it could simply be done by teleportation if his brain working correctly, which would have been pretty anti-climax.

Been sometimes since we see Noah playing with his gun, eh?
And now, let’s turn to the more complex part, as Noah finds out about Vanessa, Samuel’s old love, and attempts to use her as a bait to get to Samuel. Not just that, we saw the return of Matt Parkman as well, since Noah ask him for his help to get Vanessa to cooperate. And, like those police drama, we have that scene again where Noah is chasing after people with his gun. Too bad this part is toned down, since we only see Noah goes down a stair slowly, where is the chase? We want to see him jumping fences and the like, and where’s the gunfight?
Of course, with that half-assed kind of a chase, he fails to capture Samuel, who somehow manages to teleport himself along with the carnival, just like we see before in one of the early episode. Empty handed, Noah goes to Claire in an attempt to reconnect with her and to get the compass, but urns out she has a business to take care of, poor Noah. Meanwhile, Matt is back to his family and starts rethinking about his retirement from the world of superheroes. Honestly, first Peter, now Parkman, can’t they just lives normally and stop looking for trouble?
And Samuel finally got his hand on Vanessa, and he seems to intend to impress her with something. It is interesting to see this side of Samuel though, and how much he loves her will ultimately decides who he actually is. What would he do, would he sacrifice his people for Vanessa? Or would he sacrifice Vanessa for his goal? Or may be he would die protecting her? One thing for sure, things will go awry in the next episode as Samuel’s intention to impress Vanessa will fail and he would start to put his evil plan on motion (just a guess).
Summary:
- Overall interesting
- Hiro’s part is both funny and cool
- Peter’s dream is intriguing
- Noah’s action part is kinda meh
- Hiro returns to normal too quick
Final Rating: 8.2/10
Looks like things are finally heading to the finale!
